Change a Pet's Life Day 24th January

January 24th is Change a Pet's Life Day so here at Hoobynoo we thought we would focus on an incredibly rewarding and (for many people) completely lifechanging decision: Adopting A Dog or Cat. The date of January 24th has made this the focus of their #adoptdontshop hashtag on Instagram and Facebook among other social media websites. We thought we'd talk to some members of our exclusive Hoobynoo Pet Community to ask them about their own experiences with adoption.

"This little potato is called Phife - we adopted her from our local animal sanctuary as a pup. She's crazy! It was amazingly easy, home visits, and a few forms to sign and fee paid. Painless really. The fact we knew she'd had her vet checks etc already was brilliant. Gave us that extra peace of mind that she was fit and well. Our local vet also has an agreement with them so we even got a discount off neutering too. All that plus we got to give a special little dog a loving home." Helen, Hoobynoo Pet Community.

"I adopted a dog five years ago from guardian angels dog rescue. I then went on to become part of the rescue and adopted three more dogs and fostered countless others. Three of mine are in the photo (above)."

"We adopted Arthur from a local rescue when he was 7 months old... He's almost 14 now and the best dog we have ever had! We went to a rescue because we were ready for another dog. After always having large breeds decided to get a smaller one. We had Border Terrier in our minds. But decided to look at local rescue centres first. We wanted a young dog. Arthur became available at our local centre. We went to see him with our young Son and fell in love! He's a Dachshund x Jack Russell. He fit into our lives perfectly!"

"We adopted Britney 3 years ago.
We just loved her ears and how cute she looked in her photos, it was also lovely to see her in a foster home and see that she was great with kids and other dogs. She is no problem with our kittens either such a good girl."
Sophie, Hoobynoo Pet Community.

"All of my animals are adopted. I have 3 Great Danes, a Wolfie, 2 cats, a Galah and a Cockatiel. I coordinate Great Dane Rescue Victoria in Australia. Comparative to many breeds, our numbers are not high but we do rescue/rehome between 50 - 70 Danes each year. Foodwise they don't eat as much as people would think. My girls have a total of 3 cups dry and 2 cups raw or homemade on top each day. They mostly love to be sleeping on the couch."

"My friend adopted an elderly dog who had been alone with his owner for ten days after she died. He had to drink from the toilet and help himself from his sack of food. He was so unsettled when he arrived, but she has done a wonderful job with him and he sleeps on her bed with her. Elaine who adopted this dog (Vinny), is an amazingly active, sprightly 80 year old. She lost her beloved dog Jem and was desperately missing her, as was her other dog Molly. Elaine wanted to adopt a homeless dog, but didnt want to take on a young dog that might outlive her. She saw a post about Vinny and it seemed like fate. He is elderly and covered in tumours, but still enjoys life and walks. It is truly a lovely story. He sleeps on Elaines bed and she adores him."

"I adopted my lovely Lily 18 months ago from a fabulous charity - Save our Spaniels. She came into the country from Eastern Europe where she had been found nursing a litter of puppies in a barn. Poor thing was in a bad way. But SOS rescues her and she’s the light of my life. So affectionate and a real cuddle monster. We all adore her. "

"This is Gus, he is a year old cocker spaniel we adopted him when some friends of ours unexpectedly emigrated. He is totally crazy and this a rare moment when he’s sitting still!!! He is pictured here with 3 year old Dizzy. She loves him but he wears her out!!! He has fitted right into our crazy family! Think you can just see his hoobynoo tag in this pic too 💙"
